“You can try the best you can…the best you can is good enough.”
Not only is that my favorite Radiohead song, but it’s also how I’m feeling about our team right now. Despite the bullpen blowing another lead on Wednesday (which is the sixth game we’ve lost win holding a lead in the sixth inning or later), I feel pretty good about where were at. Were only 6-9 but with all the injuries, blown games and tragedies were still playing tough. If we can hang in there till were healthy we can make a run and be playing our best baseball towards the end of the season.
Even though its been decimated, our starting pitching has been pretty good still, Im even impressed by Shane Loux, who despite being 0-1, has a decent ERA of 3.65. I would have to think that at somepoint the bullpen will pull it together cause I can’t picture Arredondo, Shields and Fuentes pitching that bad all season. Once those three can get on track and our big three pitchers come back we will have the deepest and best pitching in baseball.
We struggled during the previous road trip but against Detroit our offense really came alive, scoring 24 runs in the three games. More importantly, we got some productivity from someone other that Abreu (who looks like the best free agent signing of the offseason) or Hunter (who is just smashing the ball). In the three games Kendy Morales was 5-13 with 5 RBI; if we expect to win the division were gonna need decent productivity from him.
Lastly, Im going to tonights game (the Angels are 4-0 when I go to games) and Im kinda excited to see Ken Griffey Jr play. Despite being a lifelong Angels fan, I always liked Griffey when I was growing up. There was a point when Griffey was on pace to become the greatest player of all time, however, injuries and getting fat intervened and slowed his career. But I never did see him play in the first time in Seattle, so its gonna be a exciting to see one of the greatest of all time close out his career.
